Good News and Bad News

Good news is that school is going fine so far. There have been minor problems with the book buying business, but once I get everything in from Amazon I should be all set. The bad news is I am coming down with something . I suspect it's another sinus infection; I have the same symptoms as last time. Sooooo . . . I will make my first trip to the health center on Monday to see about getting drugs. Er, medicine, I mean.

One interesting thing I'm learning about is the magic lantern, a device people used to make mini-light shows long before the first camera was invented. The article evokes images in my head of what people must have seen back medieval times. Anyone who wants to pontificate on this marvelous device is invited to do so in the comments. I'm feeling the stirrings of a new short story centered around this. We shall see.

I've never heard of the magic lantern, freddie. Kinda cool sounding.

Is this from history of film classes? I love this kind of stuff!

I'm not up on the magic lantern either so that's another thing to add to this week's list of Things To Research.

Sounds more of a fun medieval pastime than Pop The Buboe, I suppose...

Sorry about the delay here, Robin.

Yeah, this was from film history. I'm only halfway done with the article, and I looked up some pics online. The lantern looks totally different than what I expected. It looks like a camera, almost. You can check it out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Wymondham_magic_lantern.jpg

Ewwww, WO. I should amend this, though. It seems to have come about more during the Renaissance rather than medieval times. I really should get this shit straight before I post. : )

Thanks, Robin!

Keep trying to blog, but already time is short. School seems to be going well so far, although I'm kind of a problem child in music lab. I'm totally intimidated by the software. Or at least I was. I'm starting to feel like I'm getting a rudimentary handle on it. Sorta.

No worries on the blog thing.

My time on them is shorter, too, now.

I figure if I'm only able to check in a few times a week, that's all right, since I'm working to do what I started blogging for in the first place! You too, right?

I just read a book last month that had a shadow puppeteer as the main character! (Shadowbridge by Gregory Frost)

As far as puppetry goes, I think it was Bali or Thailand that had a strong tradition of shadow puppetry. Really cool stuff.

Ooh, I'll have to check that one out, WW!

Nope, still sick, FHH. I went to the health center on Friday, and the nurse practitioner there said it was "just allergies." I have an appointment with my doctor Wednesday. Hope to get some medicine.

Really gotta do a post soon.

I love that "just"! Hope your doctor helps out - Wednesday seems a long time to wait when you're feeling crappy.
